Combination pliers are those have a flat gripping head and usually come with a cutter and/or crimping function as well.
Having a good set of combination pliers on hand will always be beneficial. For the DIYer and homesteader, combination pliers have unlimited uses around the home. They can be used to cut or pull wire, flatten pieces of bent metal, manipulate difficult material and many other functions.
When it comes to combination pliers, one make and model that doesn’t disappoint is the Knipex 02 01 225 high leverage combination pliers. We liked this model for several reasons.
At 9 inches long, there is a little more leverage than their more popular and common 8 inch model (02 01 200). That one inch can be a significant difference when trying to move and shape stronger materials.
Like all Knipex products, (including their needle nose plier we reviewed) the fit and finish are extremely high quality and the tool feels well-balanced in the hand. One thing we noted was the larger width on the handle. Unlike many tool companies that compromise in their use of materials, Knipex invests resources to make a sturdy handle. This translates into more power and confidence when you squeeze it.
As far as handles go, Knipex makes several models with ergonomic designs. For the average DIYer and homeowner, you probably don’t need to spend the extra money. If you’re a professional contractor who regularly uses hand tools, it’s not a bad idea to invest in ergonomic models. For those of us who use tools on an intermittent basis, regular handles will do just fine.
This Knipex 02 01 225 high leverage combination pliers will not disappoint whether you use it for work or your personal life. It is reasonably priced and comes with a great warranty.
